Sample auto repair review replies

Real situations, not find-and-replace templates. Edit anything that does not sound like your shop before you post.

5-star honest quote

Sample review

“Needed front brakes on a 2016 Civic. Jess wrote the repair order before touching the car, called when the pads looked worse than expected, and had me back Thursday. No mystery fees. This is my shop now.”

Example reply

Jess will be happy this Civic is stopping cleanly. Thank you for trusting the extra pad call - we would rather pause on the repair order than surprise you at pickup. See you at the next inspection.

5-star named the tech

Sample review

“Check-engine light after a road trip. Omar found a loose gas cap and a tired purge valve, showed me the codes, and did not try to sell a new catalytic converter. In and out in a day.”

Example reply

Omar loves a comeback that is actually a gas cap and a purge valve. Glad we could show you the codes instead of guessing at a converter. Bring it back if that light so much as flickers - we already have the RO on file.

3-star parts delay

Sample review

“Work was fine but I was told two days and it turned into six because a hub assembly was on backorder. They did call, which helped, but I needed the car.”

Example reply

Six days on a two-day promise is a long time to be without the car, even with updates. Thank you for noticing the calls. Next time we will put the backorder on the repair order up front so the timeline is honest before we start. Glad it is back on the road.

1-star upsell suspicion

Sample review

“Came in for an oil change. Suddenly I need $2,400 in “safety” work. Felt like they were padding the ticket because I am not a car person.”

Example reply

An oil change turning into a $2,400 list feels like a pile-on - I understand why you paused. We will not defend the ticket in a review. Please come in with the repair order (or the RO number) and we will walk each line with the advisor who wrote it, no extra work until you say so.

1-star it came back

Sample review

“Paid for a misfire repair. Same shake at 70 mph two weeks later. Now they want to “re-diagnose.” I already paid.”

Example reply

A comeback on a misfire is the outcome we try to avoid, and I am sorry you are feeling that shake again. Please bring the car and the original repair order. We will re-inspect before we talk about more parts or labor - not diagnose it from this thread.

1-star you damaged my car

Sample review

“Picked up my truck and the passenger door has a new dent that was not there when I dropped it off. Nobody had an answer. Taking my business elsewhere.”

Example reply

A dent you did not leave with is something we take seriously. We have not inspected the truck yet, so we will not guess at cause here. Please bring it in (photos plus the repair order help) and we will re-inspect with the advisor on that ticket. We will follow up once we have seen it.

Dos and don'ts for auto repair replies

Do

  • Quote the repair order or RO number when you can. It shows you keep records.
  • Offer a re-inspection on comebacks and damage claims. See the car before you decide anything.
  • Name the tech or advisor the reviewer named.
  • On delays, own the missed promise and say how the next backorder will show up on the ticket.
  • On upsell complaints, walk the lines offline. Do not lecture them about “safety.”

Don't

  • Do not admit fault on a damage claim before you have seen the car.
  • Do not argue that the customer “does not understand cars.”
  • Do not diagnose a comeback from the review. Invite the vehicle back.
  • Do not discuss what you found on a used-car inspection in public if it identifies the vehicle too tightly.
  • Do not confuse this page with dealership sales reviews - those live on the automotive page.

Auto Repair review reply FAQs

Acknowledge the specific complaint (upsell, comeback, delay, damage), quote the repair order, and offer a re-inspection. Do not admit fault and do not diagnose the car in the reply. Paste the review into the generator on this page with Auto Repair selected, then edit before you post.

Apologize for the stress of finding damage. Do not accept blame until you have seen the vehicle. Ask them to come in with photos and the repair order so you can re-inspect with the advisor on that ticket.

Do not defend the dollar amount on Google. Invite them to walk the repair order line by line. Future customers reading the thread care that you keep a paper trail, not that you won an argument.

No. /industries/automotive is for car dealerships (sales, service, DealerRater). This page is for independent auto repair shops and mechanics who live on Google reviews and repair orders.
